Beaune
Day 1 - Beaune
Beaune
I was born for this
We started our Burgundy (Bourgogne) bike du parfait adventurier in Beaune, staying two nights right in the centre of town. Oh my, what a place it is!
Beaune won my heart the moment we arrived on the train and walked to our hotel. The cobbled streets, buildings, baguettes, wine and French people were incredible. There is so much rich history here and many many wine caves. #heaven
We started our first wine-tasting adventure in a gorgeous little village called Echevronne, at the Jean Fury winery, with a friend who had spent time making wine in NZ. We toured the winery and learnt about the Burgundian winemaking processes, and it was here I REALLY started learning about the appellations, terroir (climate), and the rating systems of Burgundy: Grand Cru, 1st Cru (Premier), Village, and “Regional” wines like Bourgogne Blanc or Hautes-Cotes de Beaune.
We tried 6 whites and 6 reds ranging from Regional to Premier Cru, then had dinner in a restaurant surrounded by the Grand Cru vines. This day was to much.
