Day 3 - South to Chassey-le-Camp
Hello Day 3!
We jumped back on our bikes and rode south through Cote de Beaune and the famous appellations Pommard, Volnay, Auxey-Duresses, finally landing in Meursault for our tasting at Buisson-Battault with Francois and Frederica, the owners.
Gosh, this was such an authentic experience, learning about their family business and their traditional winemaking techniques. Their lovely little cellar hosted many old wines that were only opened on special occasions.
We spent time sheltering from a thunderstorm in an ice cream shop, waiting for the rain to finish.
We passed through Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay (although I wasn’t really sure which way to go here…
but we kept following the route), then rode through more prestigious regions: Rully, where we did a basic wine tasting, Mercurey, the trendy town of Givry, where we walked the local market and bought fruit and supplies for our ride through the Maconnais, and Buxy.
We arrived at our hotel in Chassey-le-Camp around 6pm. The place is a little French village in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by hills and vines. We had to ride for miles through the vines to get there, so we got to know the terroir and terrain very well.
We were now halfway to Macon.
